DCT Announces its 41st Season

2010-2011 Season

The Importance of Being Earnest

(Sept. 17 - 26)

by Oscar Wilde

Director - Michael Bolen

A classic comey of manners set in late Victorian England. When Jack, also known as Ernest, reveals his double life to his aristocratic best friend, Algernon, Algernon reveals his similar duplicity to avoid social obligations. Add in the young ladies that the young men wish to marry, their chaperones and the foibles and hypocrisy of society it all adds up to Oscar Wilde's most enduringly popular play.

Drood (Oct. 29-Nov. 7)

by Rupert Holmes

Director - Brad Speck & Jim Laney

The story was inspired by Charles Dickens' last (and unfinished) novel and employs the device of a "show-within-a-show." The cast members of Drood do not specifically play Dickens's characters, but rather music hall performers who are performing as Dickens's characters. This device allowed for a great deal of light comedy that was not originally found in Dickens's novel. The Chairman, a kind of Master of Ceremonies, begins by informing attendees that this is going to be an unusual production and the play within a play commences. The final twist is that the each audience votes on the ending, so theatre goers never know how the evening will turn out.

Auditions - Aug. 29, 30 - 2010

Proof (Jan. 21-30)

by David Auburn

Director - Jeannene Abney

Catherine, the daughter of Robert, a recently deceased mathematical genius struggles with the grief of losing her father and the fear that she has inherited his mental illness. An ex-graduate student of Robert's discovers a ground breaking mathematical proof while looking through his writings. Catherine is adamant that she is the true author. Can she prove it? This is the central question of the powerful and poignant piece.

This production will be DCT's entry into the

2011 AACT competition.

Snoopy!!! The Musical (Apr. 15-24)

Music by Larry Grossman, lyrics by Hal Hackady, book by Warren Lockhart, Arthur Whitelaw and Michael Grace. Based on the Charles M. Schulz comic strip Peanuts

Director - Clay White

The Peanuts gang delights audiences with vignettes, songs and dances. Lucy is ready to assist Charlie Brown with his myriad problems at her Psychiatrist's booth, Snoopy submits his manuscript to “Playbeagle” magazine, and Linus awaits the Great Pumpkin are but a few of the of the giggle-inducing scenes in this production. Fun for all ages.

Daughters of the Lone Star State (Jun. 10-19)

by Del Shores

Director - TBA

A biting comedy about an all white women's social club that faces the reality that the world no longer embraces their bigoted outlook on society. From the same author that delighted us with Daddy's Dyin' Who's Got the Will.

Bye-Bye Birdie (Aug. 5-21)

Book by Michael Stewart, music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Lee Adams

Director - Sharon Veselic

A rock-n-roll musical-comedy set in the early 1960's. Rock super-star, Conrad Birdie, is going into the army, but before he does, a less-than-successful songwriter cooks up a scheme to have him sing on the Ed Sullivan show and give a farewell kiss to one lucky girl. The wacky events unfold in a small Ohio town where the chosen girl lives. A toe-tapping good time for the entire family.
